Raiding Necromancers
Our job is not complicated, but there is a golden rule all raiding necros should follow, and there are a few tips that may be new to some, or simply a good refresher for others.

OUR ONLY RULE: 
Never be the first one to DoT a mob unless you are 100% certain you are on the assist target.

Primary raid role:  DPS via DoT.
Secondary raid roles:

• Charm pet backup (Screaming Terror)
• Pre-Mez assist during ‘oh shit’ moments (Screaming Terror)
• Buffs:  Disease Resist and DMF (Levitation + Poison Resist e.g., Trakanon)
• Heals: vis Bond of Death + Life Flow (1 necro only)
• (Come Kunark) Mana Batteries during gathering (mages – CoH), buffing (CLR, ENC, SHM), Cheal chains (any time we would have been using Life Flow in Original), and raid recovery (rezzers without clicky stick)

Assist Hotkeys:
I use two hotkeys:

• /assist raid
• /assist Burta [or MT’s name]

[Why two keys? Sometimes raid assist is wonky and bounces. A 2nd key solves this 99% of the time.
Bind it to a key:  My /assist raid key is bound to my right arrow key. I mash it twice, a few seconds apart before starting DoTs.
It is better to lose DPS then to make mezzable mobs unmezzable when there are multiples in camp.


Target Cycling & Key Binding:
I learned all of this playing my enchanter because it was mandatory to being good at my primary function.
 
When I play, I use the following key binds and I play with two hands on the keyboard:

• Up:  Cycle through Nearest NPC Target
• Left:  Toggle melee on/off (I should probably make this my primary DoT instead though)
• Right:  My ‘/assist raid’ hotkey
• Down:  Pet attack
• Insert:  Target Nearest NPC (not to be confused with cycle nearest
• Tab:  Switch between current target and last target (note:  This is NOT a keybind at all in the default settings but it is incredibly useful!)
• + (keypad):  Cast Snare (always spell gem 1 for me)
• - (keypad):  Cast my lifetap or nuke (always spell gem 8 for me)
• * (keypad):  Cast Screaming Terror (always spell gem 2 for me)
• End:  Hotkey to turn attack off and cast Feign Death  (always spell gem 9 for me)

To setup key bindings, just go to the main control bar - Options - Keys - Select Category:  Target (Commands, Hotbar 1, etc.)

TIPS:  ABILITIES

DPS Maximization:

• Fire DoTs have two advantages:

• The mob rolls its resist check at -200
• Your entire line (from highest to lowest level) stack with one another

Though resisted often, the Poison DoT is powerful and situationally useful

If you find certain mobs that it works well on, please add those thoughts to this chain and I will update the “Specific Mob Strategies” section.

On trash mobs, casting DoTs after 50% is often a waste of mana

Lich is 20m per tick, or ~double Clarity. Ask DRUIDS for Chloroplast.

Greater Concentration Potions add 3m per tick that stacks with Lich and only cost 6 plat per hour to burn constantly (You can find 10x for 20p in the Commonlands any time, day and night.)

Screaming Terror makes us so OP.
I used to play an ENC main and when I learned that Necros got mez, my reaction was “Are you f'ing kidding me?!”
 
What makes Screaming Terror such a great spell?

All enchanter mezzes overwrite it. That means we can pre-mez targets and never be in anyone’s way.

It is seldom resisted and generates very little hate.

Its 16sec duration is long enough to cast two spells and short enough not to keep pets out of the fight for long.

 
The only drawback is the recast time. Each necro can only reliably lock one mob at a time. That said, we often have 3+ necros on raids...
 
 When is it useful:

• “Oh shit!" Moments – During a 10+ mob pull, enchanters get 1 free cast of mez. After that, every mob that saw them do it is hitting them and interrupting their casts. If a necro locks down even 1 mob for 16 seconds during that time, it can be enough to go from wipe to win. Sure, the enchanter will be cheered as the MVP, but you can take pride in knowing you made the assist.
• Charm breaks:  The 16sec duration allows enchanters to safely tash + re-charm broken pets and gives mages time to malo too

What you need to do to be good at it:  Learn to use the optional targeting settings and bind them to keys you use regularly. If you don’t do this, you are missing out on an entire utility aspect of the class that is available to you, but not entirely obvious.

Optional for the time being, but if you want to easily chat with the other necros in our guild, please /join hsbnecros. You can set this to join every time you login by typing /autjoin hsbnecros. If you have other channels you like to join, list them out separated by commas (e.g., mine is /autojoin hsbnecros, necromancer, planes, auction).
